The event will take place on Nov. 9 from 3 to 8 p.m. and Nov. 10,12 and 13 from 4 to 9 p.m in the Tula Community Center.

Each year, 色情视频 challenges its community to step outside their comfort zone and into the shoes of those who are struggling with oppressive circumstances.

Through an event titled 鈥淎 Shared Humanity,鈥 participants will be guided through a series of vignettes that highlight the many forms of oppression people face every day.

Exposing oppression

Formerly titled 鈥淭he Tunnel of Oppression,鈥 the event guides small groups of attendants through a 30-minute journey in a darkened tunnel. Along the way, they view a series of twelve vignettes performed by resident advisors and community assistants from 色情视频's Residental Education department.

鈥淚t is our sincere hope that by exposing students to the oppressive systems in society they鈥檒l take a look at how we all participate in these systems and hopefully commit to changing oppressive patterns and behaviors,鈥 said Ray Savage, leadership coordinator for Residential Education.

Some of the topics explored include domestic violence, sexual assault, racial discrimination and poverty issues.

Enlightened and empowered

鈥淎 Shared Humanity鈥 is an element of Residential Education鈥檚 larger goal to better inform 色情视频 students on a variety of social issues. The event succeeds in challenging predisposed beliefs and attitudes.

鈥淭hrough participation in the Journey, we hope to increase awareness, sensitivity and understanding of oppression and initiate increased dialogue regarding oppression,鈥 Savage said.

Immediately following the tour, professional staff members will be available to help participants process the experience. Taking the time to reflect on the thoughts and feelings discovered during 鈥淎 Shared Humanity鈥 will further facilitate action on campus and beyond.

Savage hopes that through these exercises participants will leave the event feeling both enlightened and empowered.
