The Daily Aztec Wins Big at Award Ceremony
The Daily Aztec won more than a dozen awards at the Society of Professional Journalists' local award banquet.
The Daily Aztec won a total of 17 awards in the College Media category, including Best College Newspaper.
鈥淵ou don鈥檛 do the work to win awards, but it鈥檚 nice whenever the hard work of all the staff and editors is recognized,鈥 said Andrew Dyer, editor-in-chief of The Daily Aztec. 鈥淥ur goal is to serve the campus community and provide them with news they may not get elsewhere.鈥
Dyer attributed the bulk of the recognition for The Daily Aztec鈥檚 accomplishments at the award banquet to last year鈥檚 editor-in-chief Jacob Sisneros, as well as former managing editor Jamie Ballard.
Some notable award-winners from The Daily Aztec include Andrea Lopez-Villafa帽a, who won first place in the Multicultural Story category for her piece 鈥淛oven fronteriza coronada reina (Miss Baja California represents two countries)鈥 and Sarah Tanori, who won first place in the Arts/Entertainment Story category for her piece 鈥淏ecoming pioneers of hardcore punk.鈥
