Two É«ÇéÊÓƵ Cadets to Receive Honors During Commissioning Ceremonies
Over 350 people expected to attend commissioning ceremony aboard the USS Midway which will mark its 40th anniversary
Four cadets from É«ÇéÊÓƵ’s ROTC program will be commissioned into service during a ceremony Saturday aboard the USS Midway.
The event will mark the 40th anniversary of the program which commissions students and recent graduates from É«ÇéÊÓƵ, Point Loma Nazarene, California State University San É«ÇéÊÓƵs, the University of San Diego and the University of California San Diego. This year’s class of 16 cadets will be commissioned into either active duty, reserve and National Guard service.
The Class of ‘22 includes two É«ÇéÊÓƵ commissionees being recognized with high honors. Jonathan Hallmark and Raphael Sanvictores are designated Distinguished Military Graduates, an award given to those that rank in the 10% of all commissioning cadets in the country.
Sanvictores will be closing the ceremony with the formal recital of the Soldier’s Creed. Hernandez was selected for having been a prior-enlisted soldier before joining the ROTC program.
Hallmark, Sanvictores, Daniel Hernandez and Nyah-Simoné Porter will be taking the oath of office during the ceremony and be pinned with second lieutenant bars appointing all four É«ÇéÊÓƵ graduates as Army officers.
A dozen members of the program’s Class of ‘82 and their families will be reuniting to join an anticipated gathering of 350 friends and family for the 40th anniversary ceremony. The alumni will be attending special events leading up to Saturday’s commissioning.
Lieutenant General Roger Cloutier will be the commissioning guest speaker. Cloutier commissioned as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army upon graduating from the University of San Diego in 1988. He has served in numerous leadership positions throughout his career including commander of U.S. Army Africa / Southern European Task Force and commanding general of the U.S. Army Training Center at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Cloutier was honored with several awards including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Army Achievement Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters.
