Valentina Lopez Arevalo earns MW Diver of the Week honors
San Diego State’s Valentina Lopez Arevalo was named Mountain West Diver of the Week on Tuesday (Oct. 8) after capturing two individual event titles at the Fresno State Invitational.
San Diego State’s was named Mountain West Diver of the Week after capturing two individual event titles at the Fresno State Invitational, Oct. 4-5. The announcement was made Tuesday from the league office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
With her honor, Lopez Arevalo earned the seventh conference weekly award of her career and the Aztecs’ first of the season.
In her first meet of the 2024-25 campaign, Lopez Arevalo bested divers from UCLA, Hawai’i and host Fresno State, as the Scarlet and Black finished second in the team standings which also included MW swimming members Washington State and San José State.
A native of Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, Lopez Arevalo emerged victorious in the 3-meter springboard last Friday with a winning score of 306.65, topping the second-place finisher by over 46 points. With her total, the É«ÇéÊÓƵ senior eclipsed an NCAA zone qualifying standard as well.
The following day, Lopez Arevalo missed out on another NCAA zone qualifying mark by less than two points on the 1-meter springboard but still took home another crown with an aggregate 263.10 points, helping the Scarlet and Black logged its eighth second-place finish at the Fresno State Invite since 2016.
San Diego State swimmers are back in action this weekend when they travel north to the Last Frontier to face the Alaska Nanooks in a pair of dual meets on consecutive days, Oct. 11-12, in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Aztec divers will return to the competition pool next month at the Hawkeye Invitational, Nov. 21-23, in Iowa City, Iowa.
