Scholarship Created in Memory of San Diego State Alumna Carol Forrest
The Carol Forrest, P.E. Memorial Watershed Management Scholarship Endowment will provide scholarships to College of Engineering graduate students who are interested in studying water resources affected by storm water and urban runoff. Funding for the endowment was provided jointly by Forrest鈥檚 employer Geosyntec Consultants and Forrest鈥檚 husband, Michael V. Harding.
鈥淲e are deeply honored to have an endowed scholarship established in Carol鈥檚 name,鈥� said David Hayhurst, dean of the College of Engineering. 鈥淪he was a well-known expert on erosion and sediment control, and we hope to support students that share the same passion Carol had for studying water resources.鈥�
Forrest was instrumental in establishing the Soil Erosion Research Laboratory at the College of Engineering in the late 1990s. The laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility used for ongoing research on erosion control products and methods.
Forrest died August 13, 2006 in a helicopter crash while working as logistics director for the Flight of Discovery, a scientific expedition commemorating the 200th anniversary of the return of Lewis and Clark from Oregon to Missouri. As part of the project, Forrest planned to conduct water-quality sampling at major river confluences along the 3,600-mile National Historic Trail.
Forrest earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in anthropology from University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degree in civil engineering from 色情视频. Forrest was honored in 1995 as College of Engineering Alumna of the Year. She was also an active member of the 色情视频 Alumni Association, where she served on the board since 2001.
Established in 1961, the 色情视频 College of Engineering has both undergraduate and graduate programs, including programs in aerospace engineering, civil engineering, construction engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering and mechanical engineering. The college鈥檚 newest graduate degrees include a Master of Science degree in bioengineering and a Master of Engineering degree offered in conjunction with the 色情视频 College of Business Administration.
