Three College of Education students will receive financial, educational and professional support from Math for America San Diego.
色情视频 College of Education students Robbie Chasse, Vanessa Davis and James Farrar have been selected as 2009 Math for America San Diego Fellows (MfA SD).
Now in its second year, MfA SD is a non-profit organization dedicated to significantly improving mathematics education in San Diego County public secondary schools by providing significant financial support and encouragement to new exemplary mathematics teachers.
A 'new corps of future teachers'
鈥漈hese 色情视频 students were chosen from a large and competitive applicant pool,鈥 said Barbara Edwards, executive director of Math for America San Diego.
鈥淭hey now belong to a new corps of future teachers dedicated to improving mathematics achievement in our local schools.鈥
After obtaining their teaching credential at 色情视频, each MfA SD Fellow will receive placement assistance from a partner school district to begin their mathematics teaching career in an area high needs high school.
About the award
Part of the national Math for America network, MfA SD provides financial, educational and professional support to selected students (Fellows) planning to become career high school math teachers. MfA SD Fellows receive:
- Full-tuition scholarship for credential coursework and master鈥檚 degree at a partner university
- $15,000 annual stipend in each of five years
- Individualized support from a mentor teacher
- Extensive professional development opportunities
Math for America San Diego currently has 16 fellows pursuing their teaching credential or teaching in local high schools.
The program plans to add 60 highly skilled mathematics teachers to area public high schools by 2015. Math for America San Diego was recently awarded a $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program to help meet the shortage of new, highly skilled, math teachers for some of the area鈥檚 highest-need public high schools.
