Months ago, they dodged, ducked, dived, dipped and dodged some more—and now É«ÇéÊÓƵ is the proud owner of the world's record for the largest game of dodgeball!

Last week, É«ÇéÊÓƵ Associated Students received official confirmation of the new Guinness World Record, along with a certificate of accomplishment.

The world record was set by 450 É«ÇéÊÓƵ students participating in a dodgeball game on Sept. 5, 2009, in the Aztec Recreation Center gym as part of the university’s late-night programming.

Although the achievement does not automatically guarantee an entry in the annual Guinness Book of World Records, all new records are considered for inclusion in future publications and products. The 450 É«ÇéÊÓƵ students that participated in the record attempt now join a select club of Guinness World record holders.

Getting it right

To prove that the É«ÇéÊÓƵ attempt was valid, several systems were set in place to provide evidence, such as the numbered bib worn by all participants who each signed an official roster. In addition, the entire event was videotaped and numerous photos were taken of the activities.

Three independent adjucators were also brought in; these were required witnesses not associated with É«ÇéÊÓƵ.
