The San Diego State women’s tennis team ended the 2010 fall season on a high note Sunday as it claimed three overall titles and logged five wins at the É«ÇéÊÓƵ Fall Classic II.

Ellisons capture doubles championship

Roxanne Ellison and Sierra Ellison captured their second doubles championship of the fall campaign when they defeated teammates Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar, 8-6, to win the Black bracket title. In three tournaments this season, the tandem has claimed both Fall Classic trophies and were finalists at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships.

In the consolation final of the Red bracket, Emma Cioffi and Julia Trunk downed Loyola Marymount’s Melissa Valenzuela and April Bisharat, 8-1.

Trunk wraps up the season

Trunk, ranked No. 51 in the preseason ITA singles poll, wrapped up her fall slate by winning the Red bracket title. The senior was extended to three sets, but ultimately emerged with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Kansas’ Katerina Morozova.

Wais joined Trunk in the winner’s circle while competing in the Pink draw. The sophomore, like Trunk, was pushed to three sets and earned a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(1) decision over Andjela Nemcevic of Washington.

Aguilar, who is ranked No. 65, did not fare as well as her other teammates, finishing on the wrong end of a three-setter with Washington’s Samantha Smith. The Husky defeated Aguilar, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4, to win the Silver championship.

Olivia Colman was also in action on the final day of the tournament and headed into the spring season with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Kansas’ Dylan Windom.

Aztecs win 21 of 25

Over the course of the three-day tournament, É«ÇéÊÓƵ won 21 of 25 matches, which includes both singles and doubles.

San Diego State will hit the court next in 2011 when they play host to University of California Riverside and California State University Fullerton at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, on Jan. 22 at the Aztec Tennis Center.
