Budget Basics: Laying the Groundwork for a Successful Proposal
2 - 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23

Part of writing a grant proposal is understanding the costs of your sponsored project. Where do you begin when creating your proposal budget? For example, do you plan on hiring students, using various supplies, renting space, or attending conferences? How will these costs affect your budget? Experienced staff in 色情视频RF鈥檚 sponsored research development and administration departments will help answer questions and provide examples of how to include project costs in your proposal. The information presented will be useful for faculty and staff who are new to proposal preparation or submitting to a new agency, as well as those faculty and staff who need a 鈥渞efresher鈥 on budget development.

Conflicts of Interest: A Primer for Principal Investigators and Project Staff

2 - 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 6

With grant sponsors and award recipients (including 色情视频) looking more closely at the terms of grants and contracts, it is important for faculty and administrators to be aware of both real and potential financial conflicts of interest. Gene Stein, co-director of 色情视频 Research Foundation鈥檚 contracting and compliance department will offer insight into the nature of conflicts of interest, why we should care about them, how, when and why they must be disclosed, and how conflicts of interest can be managed. Several examples will be used for clarification.

Accounts Payable Essentials
1 - 3 p.m., Thursday, March 15

In this educational session, many questions regarding your project account(s) will be answered by the knowledgeable staff in 色情视频 Research Foundation鈥檚 accounts payable department. For example, how will you get checks to your vendors? Are you planning on traveling and need assistance with travel and expenses? How do you get a lost check re-issued? How do you determine whether someone should be paid as an independent contractor or employee? Are there alternate payment methods for small dollar purchases (personal reimbursements and PCards)? Topics to be covered also include: what to do with an invoice; who to contact in each department; and other questions about invoices/credits. If you are interested in saving time and money on your project, this is the session for you.

Export Controls: Do鈥檚 and Don鈥檛s!
2 - 4 p.m., Thursday, March 22

Do you think export control laws don鈥檛 pertain to your research? Think again. Exports don鈥檛 always involve sending something out of the country. You can actually violate export control regulations by working in your office or lab! This workshop will explain export control regulations, what you have to do (and not do) to comply, what types of research are exempt, and how to avoid stiff federal penalties. If you are conducting research that involves working in, travel to or collaborating with colleagues from another country, this important information may apply to you.

Order it Up: Purchasing Basics
2 - 4 p.m., Thursday, April 5

These questions and more will be answered in this informative session presented by a knowledgeable buyer in 色情视频 Research Foundation鈥檚 purchasing department. Topics to be covered include: how to order what you need; checking the status of your order; and who to contact in Purchasing. If you would like to make the most of your project dollar, this is the workshop for you. You may submit any questions in advance to Jonathan Florendo.

Does your project involve international collaborations? Are you contracting with a nonresident? At this seminar you will learn more about the U.S. immigration system, general tax issues, residence status for IRS tax purposes, classifying and sourcing the income, and how to process payments. If you would like to learn more about the policies involved in collaborating with international guests, you will not want to miss this workshop.
