Antionette Jones Marbray joined the leadership team of the division on July 6. This is not Marbray鈥檚 first time working at 色情视频. She worked in the Center for Student Rights & Responsibilities, first as associate director, and then as its director, in the early 2000s.
"I am excited to join a team that is committed to helping students reach their full potential,鈥 Marbray said of her new role at 色情视频. 鈥淗aving worked at San Diego State before and now returning to the campus, it is easy to see where the campus has been and how much it has grown. Marbray鈥檚 professional experiences working in student development, as well as a Title IX director and general counsel at several universities, give her a unique perspective and skill set that complements the Student Affairs leadership team well, said Vice President for Student Affairs Eric Rivera.
Unique perspective
"Antionette鈥檚 focus on approaching issues to ensure we are being fair and appropriate, as well as acting in the best interests of students, will be invaluable to the division and the university,鈥 Rivera said.
Marbray is also very interested in the university's goal to be one of the top 50 public research institutions in the country, as well as 色情视频鈥檚 work in recruiting and retaining underrepresented students and students of color.
"I believe the university鈥檚 goals in these areas are very attainable,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 hope I can be a role model and someone students, particularly students of color, can come to in moments of success and moments of question during their time at 色情视频.鈥
Prior to coming to San Diego State, Marbray was the Title IX and equal opportunity employment programs director at the University of San Diego. She also worked as interim vice president and general counsel at Bowie State University, in Maryland, and was assistant general counsel at the University of Florida. Marbray is also a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Florida Bar.
History of excellence
Marbray鈥檚 former colleagues noted that her ability to listen and connect with her peers, as well as students, makes her an asset to any campus community.
"It was immediately clear to the USD team that Antionette had extensive experience in higher education with a well-rounded approach to addressing student and employee concerns,鈥 said Peter Marlow, associate vice president for university communications at USD. 鈥淢ost importantly, Antionette is a kind and approachable leader who listened carefully to various points of view and provided thoughtful and insightful counsel to real issues facing the university.鈥
Marbray will be overseeing Career Services, Counseling & Psychological Services, Health Promotion, Student Disability Services, Student Health Services and the Center for Student Rights & Responsibilities.
