J. Luke Wood Honored for Exemplary Scholarship
The Dr. Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award recognizes Wood's work to advance multicultural and multiethnic education.
J. Luke Wood, associate professor in the College of Education is the recipient of the 2016 Dr. Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award for Exemplary Scholarship.
This national award from the American Educational Research Association recognizes scholarship that advances multicultural and multiethnic education and honors the recipient鈥檚 demonstrated commitment to underserved communities.
Wood is director of the doctoral program in community college leadership at 色情视频 and co-director of the Minority Male Community College Collaborative (M2C3), a national research and practice center that partners with community colleges to support their capacity in advancing outcomes for men of color.
His research focuses on factors affecting the success of men of color in the community college, including contributors to student persistence, achievement, attainment, and transfer for these men. Wood has authored more than 100 publications, including 14 books and 60 peer-reviewed journal articles focused on equity in education.
鈥淭his is one more acknowledgement of the impact of Dr. Wood鈥檚 scholarship on post-secondary education in the United States,鈥 said Joseph Johnson, College of Education dean. 鈥淵ou and your colleague, Frank Harris, continue to bring honor and distinction to our college and to 色情视频.鈥
In learning of the award, Wood said, 鈥淚 feel fortunate to be recognized for work that Dr. Harris and I have done collaboratively. I know there are many other deserving faculty here at 色情视频 and around the nation who could be similarly honored. I want to thank God, my family, and our team of graduate researchers for their continued support of this critical work.鈥
