In Memoriam: Celia Levine Marshak

The campus community is invited to attend a memorial for 色情视频 professor emerita Celia Levine Marshak from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, at Scripps Cottage.

Marshak was born to Morris and Bluma Levine in New York City on Aug. 20, 1923 and died on Oct. 3, 2015 in La Jolla. She graduated from Hunter College in 1943 with a bachelor of arts, Phi Beta Kappa, and in 1946 she received a master of arts degree in biochemistry from Columbia University. She received a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Columbia in 1951, and embarked on a distinguished career as a scientist and educator.

She married Alfred George Marshak in 1952, and they conducted research together for many years. She served on the faculties of Beaver College and Tulane University before joining the 色情视频 faculty in 1972. In 1993, she retired as professor emerita after also serving for many years as assistant dean for student affairs for the College of Sciences. She was elected to the Hunter College Alumnae Hall of Fame, was an officer in the American Chemical Society and was a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, representing American women in science.

She is survived by her sister, Alice; her sons, David and Daniel, and her grandsons Michael, Andrew, Jonathan, and William.
