Student Organization Spotlight: Salsa Club
The 色情视频 Salsa Club teaches its members a variety of Latin dances.
Through the Salsa Club, students are able to learn the art of salsa dancing in a safe, interactive environment and build lifelong friendships.
The organization鈥檚 president, Brianna Zantman, says joining the Salsa Club allowed her to make friends as a transfer student. Members of the Salsa Club welcomed her with open arms, which gave her the confidence to get more involved in the organization. She also says the club is a great way to relieve the stress and tension from school and life.
What was your motivation for joining the Salsa Club?
I used to ballroom dance for about five years, but salsa has always been my favorite. When I transferred to 色情视频 last year and found out about the Salsa Club, I couldn't wait to join. Dancing salsa and other Latin dances brings me so much joy.
What has been the highlight of your time with your organization?
My highlight has been the overall journey. I wasn't expecting to get so involved with Salsa Club, but I'm so glad that I did. Last year, I became team captain of one of our official performance teams called Pa'Xango and now I am president of the whole organization. When our Pa'Xango competition team competed at the Collegiate Salsa Open in 色情视频 for the first time last year, it was such a thrill. Our team bonding was incredible last year and I'm hoping to carry that same energy to this year's team and for our club meetings.
Is your organization open to all majors?
Our club is open to all majors, and is even open to the public.
When it comes to finding new members for your organization, what type of students are you looking for?
We are looking for anyone and everyone who is interested in learning more about Latin dance. Got two left feet? Don't worry, we鈥檝e got extra rights.
When are your meetings and is there a membership fee?
Our meetings are from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday evenings on the Exercise and Nutritional Sciences Field next to the Music Building. We have an array of memberships that come with different benefits. Our basic club registration is $15 for a semester, which breaks down to about one dollar each class. We keep our prices low because we know that college can be hard financially and we don't want to discourage anyone. Other membership classes include T-shirts and free workshops. We also have a drop-in fee of $3 for one person and $5 for two if you don't want to purchase a membership. What is great is that your first time is always free.
How can students find more information about your organization?

What kind of activities does your organization plan/attend?
We have weekly meetings every Wednesday. We also have teams for people who are interested in performing or competing. We encourage social dancing, so sometimes we will get a big group of members together to go out dancing in San Diego with great discounts. This year, we are also planning to host a social on campus for students, community members, and the other salsa clubs on campus.
